To the growth of the section of our laboratory dedicated to the investigation of the characteristics of Biodegradability and Compostability of products in soil, compost, and seawater (based on scientific work and ISO and ASTM regulations) LMPE is equipped with modern equipment, unique in Europe, of Japanese manufacture, called M.O.D.A. 6 (Microbial Oxidation Degradation Analysis).

It’s an innovative analysis equipment able to determine the amount of carbon dioxide produced during the Microbial Degradation process of the compost placed inside it with the analyzed sample (Biodegradability according to ISO 14855 – 2 and EN ISO 13432). The samples that can be analyzed are of various kinds, including industrial waste both plastics, cellulosic, and organic in general. The amount of carbon dioxide produced by Biodegradation is weighed by a highly precise electronic balance that evaluates the weight gain of the absorption column. The use of a constant temperature chamber allows all units to operate in the same way in room conditions. All six channels can be kept at a constant and uniform temperature level. The air in the flow condition can be individually set for each unit. This tool therefore enables the biodegradation and compostability tests currently carried out by manual back-titration procedures to be carried out more quickly.

From the Journal COM. PACK n.40 2019 an article entitled: “Determining CO2 is in M.O.D.A. (in vogue)” where it is described how LMPE has strengthened the Laboratory Section dedicated to Biodegradation, with the installation of the only MODA 6 instrument available in Europe, a modern and sophisticated 4.0 equipment capable of determining the amount of carbon dioxide developed in Microbial Degradation in Compost.
